When a loved one passes away, many families take the opportunity to pen a lengthy obituary outlining their achievements in life.

Not the family of Douglas Legler though.

Readers of the The Forum of Fargo-Moorhead got a shock when they read the death notice for the 85-year-old North Dakota man last month, as it was a little more abrupt than most!

His daughter Janet Stoll told WDAY the her father was well-known for “his wicked sense of humour” and had insisted on the obituary prior to his death.

“We had no idea it would turn into what is has. He didn’t try [to be funny], he just was charismatic and funny and quick witted.

“He was very generous – he would sometimes have a gruff exterior or growl but he had a very kind and tender heart.”
