Teenager tragically killed in e-scooter accident in Waterford

The harrowing Waterford accident happened in the early hours of Thursday morning

A teenager has sadly passed away following an e-scooter accident in Co. Waterford.

Gardaí confirmed the male youth died in the early hours of Thursday morning.

The teenager reportedly collided with a bus on the R680 Cork Road in Waterford city.

He was pronounced dead at the scene, Gardaí confirmed.

Another male youth, who was also travelling on the e-scooter, was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

He is currently being treated in Waterford University Hospital following the collision.

Gardaí issued a statement following the harrowing accident:

“One person travelling on the e-scooter, a male youth in his teens, was pronounced deceased at the scene. Another male youth in his teens who was also travelling on the e-scooter was taken to Waterford University Hospital with serious injuries.

“The driver of the bus was uninjured. He was the sole occupant of this vehicle.”

Gardaí confirmed the Cork Road is currently closed from the South East Technological University (SETU) to the Ring Road and a technical examination by Forensic Collision Investigators is being conducted.

Local diversions are also in place.

Witnesses have been urged to come forward following the heartbreaking incident.

Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling on the Cork Road in Waterford city between 12:45am and 1:15am are asked to make this footage available to Gardaí.
