Hailey Bieber once again has proven the ‘wrong shoe theory’ can work

Jody Coffey

Not a trend we’d expect on the Rhode founder, but one that is easy for us to achieve.

Hailey Bieber has shown us time and time again that she is the queen of trailblazing, as she has popularised pretty much every food and drink-inspired trend this year.

Despite an onslaught of public opinion about her husband’s recent attire, Hailey seems to be able to embrace the dressed-down look too.

This summer, the 26-year-old was pictured styled in a gorgeous trench coat, denim shorts, and a crop top with… sandals and socks. The weirdest part is that it low-key works.

The ‘wrong shoe theory’ was the brainchild of stylist Allison Bornstein, and the trend is simple: finish off your fashion fit by pairing it with the most random and unexpected pair of shoes.

The idea behind this is to inject some extra personality into your look and, I’m guessing, to wear shoes that have been lying in wait until we find the right clothes for them.

Would I look into my wardrobe, see these sandals, and immediately think ‘shorts and trench coat’? No.

However, seeing this look on Mrs. Bieber, I find myself rethinking everything I thought I knew about fashion.

The Hailey Bieber effect is something that demands to be studied. How is it that strawberry doughnuts, cinnamon cookie butter, lattes, and frat-boy shoe styling (that, might I add, many count as an ick) have made their way into our makeup bags, haircare, and wardrobes? Hailey Bieber is why.

When Justin dresses down, he gets annihilated. When his wife does it, we all bow down and label it a trend.

You know what? I am here for it. Keep em’ coming.
