Prince Harry and Meghan nearly went with a different option for their son

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle picked some pretty adorable names for their children. They opted for less traditional monikers than Prince William and Kate, but still honoured royal tradition by calling their little girl Lilibet, the late Queen Elizabeth’s nickname.

However, when it comes to their son Archie, the parents nearly chose a completely different moniker for their baby boy.

Their son’s full name is Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor but they nearly picked a different moniker for him.

They were planning on calling him Harrison but ended up changing their minds at the last minute.

Meghan opened up about the decision to Invictus Games competitor Sherry McBain.

She told The Mirror: “Harrison is Archie’s middle name. Harry and Meghan couldn’t decide between Archie and Harrison for the first name.”

Meghan Markle gave birth to their son Archie on May 6th, 2019.

Their second child, a baby girl, was born on June 4th, 2021. They decided to call their beautiful daughter Lilibet ‘Lili’ Diana.

They honoured the late Queen by calling her Lilibet but they usually refer to their daughter as Lili.

In 2020, Meghan confirmed she had suffered a heartbreaking miscarriage.

She wrote in The New York Times: “I knew, as I clutched my firstborn child, that I was losing my second.

“After changing his diaper, I felt a sharp cramp. I dropped to the floor with him in my arms, humming a lullaby to keep us both calm, the cheerful tune a stark contrast to my sense that something was not right.”

The mum added: “Hours later, I lay in a hospital bed, holding my husband’s hand. I felt the clamminess of his palm and kissed his knuckles, wet from both our tears. Staring at the cold white walls, my eyes glazed over.”

Meghan and Prince Harry live in California with their two children. They stepped down as senior working royals in January 2020.
