What To Wear – Dressing For A Wedding

Have a peek at our summer wedding style picks.

Cathy Donohue

Dressing for a wedding can be difficult at the best of times: you don’t want to choose something too short yet you don’t want something too long either.

White is generally out unless you know the bride a) won’t mind you choosing the same colour as her dress b) isn’t wearing white or c) doesn’t really care what you wear.

However, summer weddings are a little easier than trying to find something in the depths of winter. There’s both maxi and mini dresses, voluminous circle skirts and mid-length shapes to choose from.

With tropical prints, pretty pastels and bright block colours you will be spoilt for choice.

We love the monochrome Oasis number (€88) featured in the gallery. It’s an elegant midi-length and this piece won’t date so you’ll be able to pull it out season after season.

If you’re tall and prefer something a little longer, we are in love (or maybe it’s lust) with the rose patterned maxi dress from Warehouse. It might be a little bit expensive at €104 but it’s the type of dress you can recycle each summer so the cost per wear justifies the overall cost.

The Zara sandals (€39.95) featured will go with many of the dresses, skirts, trousers and well pretty much everything in your pre-existing wardrobe.

Considering our unpredictable climate, a light jacket is essential. The sun might be shining at the start of the celebrations but fast forward an hour and things might look a little bit different.

While white may not be the wisest choice for a dress, there’s no harm in choosing a neutral cover-up. This white cropped number from River Island will go with literally everything from a block coloured skirt and top combination to a patterned dress.
