Colour-changing Converse are now a thing and we definitely need them in our lives

Keeley Ryan

Oooh.

Converse that change colour in the sun are now a thing – and we definitely need them in our lives.

The retailer have partnered up with US-based Chinatown Market to create the UV-activated trainers that change colour when you step outside.

The shoes start off a pastel hue, but become a vivid combination of purple, blue and orange when they are exposed to sunlight.

Basically, they’re two shoes in one – and actually aren’t too expensive, either.

The Chuck 70 Hi model will set you back around €89 ($100), while the Chuck 70s will cost you €84.50 ($95).

It’s worth noting that there are probably a few extra added costs – like taxes and shipping – if you’re thinking of buying a pair.

Chinatown Market lead designer and founder Mike Sherman spoke to Sneaker News about the “beautiful” collaboration.

He said:

“All you need is sunlight for these shoes to change colors. That’s what’s so beautiful about it. You don’t need any special tech, you don’t have to be able to draw. It’s not like we just gave you a box of markers and said ‘now you have to make your own cool shoe.’

“It’s truly packaged with the punch of its special features. No gimmicks necessary. It changes with you.

“You go to a music festival, the shoes are all bright and crazy in the sunlight, and the moment you step inside a tent, they go back to their pastel base and are different. That’s what’s so fun.”
