Sometimes, no matter how much sleep we get or concealer we use, we fall victim to dark circles.
While we can try every miracle cream and ointment, you could be self-sabotaging your skin without even realising it.
Speaking to Women’s Health, dermatologist Ellen Marmur unveiled three of the most common (non sleep-deprived) reasons why you’re battling those dark circles:
Waterproof Mascara
While it might help keep your make-up in place, waterproof mascara usually requires a LOT of rubbing to take off the dregs of your make-up. Increased rubbing on this sensitive spot under your eyes can damage skin and leave it looking dull and lifeless.
Marmur suggests switching to a formula that’s not marked long wear, and using a cream to remove any residue by lightly moisturising rather than heavily rubbing your lids.
Swimming Goggles
Goggles might keep that chlorine from stinging your eyes, but the added suction and pressure to the under-eye area can leave your circles deeper and darker than ever.
Instead opt for a pair of open-water goggles – which rest on the outside of the orbital rim.
Eyelash Extensions
Extra volume to the flutter of your lashes can give you an instant confidence boost, but if the glue irritates your skin, you could be in for trouble.
Eyelash extension glue can commonly result in irritation of the eye area, which means increased rubbing and damage to the eye area. Always do a patch test, or instead opt for a volumous mascara to give you that extra oomph.
