Are you ready to have your world turned upside-down?
You know those little plastic circles that are always attached to the metal bit at the back of your earrings? We have always – as I am sure you have too – kept them on, thinking they formed some essential part of the earring.
Well, ladies, we were all wrong.
It turns out, these little yokes can indeed be taken off.
Yup, that’s right. Allow Twitter user Chelsea Smith to enlighten you. Smith posted the following update to her Twitter account, changing everything forever:
“After my nineteen years of living I have now realized that you are supposed to take the plastic part off.”
Her post was quickly shared thousands of times, meaning clearly we have all been doing this wrong. Other Twitter users were quick to comment how baffled they too were about this revelation:
@MukesDildo @Chelsea__Smithh OMG I FEEL STUPID NOW ???

However, there were some tweeting back saying the plastic circle was there to support the lobe and distribute the weight of the earring more evenly if you were wearing heavy earrings.
@Chelsea__Smithh NO!!! The plastic piece helps distribute weight on heavy earrings and makes it more comfortable. Promise!
