Actress Sophia Bush says she can finally feel like she can breathe
Sophia Bush, best known for her roles in One Tree Hill and Chicago P.D., has confirmed she is queer.
The actress, who was previously married to Chad Michael Murray and Grant Hughes, opened up about her new relationship in a moving piece on Glamour.
She explained that she always felt like her sexuality was ‘on a spectrum’.
“I think I’ve always known that my sexuality exists on a spectrum. Right now I think the word that best defines it is queer. I can’t say it without smiling, actually.”
“I finally feel like I can breathe,” the actress said.
Bush said she is now in a relationship with footballer Ashlyn Harris.
She said there are no words to “explain how profound that is”.
Bush said it felt like she “was wearing a weighted vest for who knows how long”.
“I hadn’t realised how heavy it was until I finally just put it down,” she explained.
The activist said she “didn’t see it until I saw it”.
Following her divorce from Hughes, the activist was leaning on her loved ones for support.
During that difficult time, she grew close to Harris.
“I was separated and preparing to file for divorce, and groups of women in my life started opening up about issues they were going through in their own homes. I didn’t expect to find love in this support system.
The One Tree Hill star added: “I don’t know how else to say it other than I didn’t see it until I saw it.”
It may have taken her some time to find the person that makes her happy, but Bush believes “it was all fated”.
“It took me 41 years to get here. When I take stock of the last few years, I can tell you that I have never operated out of more integrity in my life.
“I hope that’s clear enough for everyone speculating out there while being as gentle as I possibly can be.”
