Ask The Stylist – Lisa Fitzpatrick Offers Tips On Dressing For A Night Out

Expert advice.

Cathy Donohue

A night out is meant to be fun and enjoyable, but when you start worrying about what to wear things can become stressful very quickly.

With that in mind, we decided to call in a little expert advice.

Stylist and TV presenter Lisa Fitzpatrick has put together her essential tips on dressing for a night out:

“Let me start by saying that the thought of getting all dolled up for a night out with the girls, workmates or your other half shouldn’t fill you with dread.

“Be proud of your figure, wear clothes to flatter your shape and never underestimate the incredible power of good underwear.

“Don’t feel under pressure to run out and invest in all the latest trends, instead choose a few key pieces that work for you and build your wardrobe around them.”

Dazzle them with class.

If you feel a little unsure of how to put together the perfect dressy outfit then my top tip is to always keep it simple. The jumpsuit is here to stay so if you haven’t dared to wear then now is the time to take the plunge, €70 at Warehouse.

Give them shoe envy.

It’s great to add a pop of colour to a black outfit and a fabulous pair of shoes is the way to do it. I’m a firm believer that a beautiful pair of heels can be a real confidence booster. Wear them with pride, stand tall and enjoy the feeling of being all dressed up for a night out. I love this pair from Asos and the blue colour works so well against the plain black.

Make a statement.

Accessories are the greatest invention and over the years I’ve found myself re-inventing many a black dress with a chunky necklace or fabulous earrings. Whilst I’m not saying go over the top with bling, it’s definitely worth investing in a few items that can bring new life to an old ensemble. Be brave and bold in this gorgeous pair, €17 from River Island. Sweep your hair back from your face for maximum effect. Keep other jewellery to a minimum and let the earrings do the talking.

It’s in the bag!

The clutch is an absolute must for a night out and there is no reason for your bag not to be both stylish and practical. Make sure you have enough room for that all-important lip-gloss and blusher. Choosing a versatile black clutch means you can pair it with a number of looks. I love this quilted Oasis cross body clutch, €31 and if you plan on hitting the dance floor, then this is the one for you.
