Fashion special: what to wear to a festival when it’s cold and damp

Cathy Donohue

Let’s be honest…it’s Ireland and it rains a lot here, a LOT.

With that in mind, denim shorts, crochet cropped tops and flimsy sandals just aren’t going to cut it when it comes to festival life.

Your legs will get disgustingly dirty from the mucky grass, you will get the mother of all flu’s and your feet are very likely to get some nasty cuts…not exactly ideal for what’s meant to be a fun weekend.

With a number of festivals coming up, we decided it was high time we went on the search for a functional festival wardrobe with these buys lasting longer than a weekend at EP.

These picks won’t break the bank and better again, they’ll last you longer than one fashion season.

Check out our current faves:

Cream floral plunge flute sleeve bodysuit, €43.00 at River Island
This ticks all the boxes, you’ll stay warm and bell sleeves are THE trend of summer 2017.

MOTO Front Lace Up A-Line Skirt, €46 at Topshop
Again, this a functional buy, you can wear it with opaques if it pours rain, which let’s face it is more than likely, and it looks just as good with bare legs if the sun decides to make an appearance.

Georgia Tie Front Floral Lace Trim Maxi Dress, €29 at Boohoo
Maxi dresses are a good shout when the weather isn’t behaving itself and we’re particularly fond of this monochrome number. You might need to wear a top inside when it’s chilly but then we’re experts in layering thanks to the Irish climate.

Pink Matte Anorak, €44.99 at New Look
A raincoat is absolutely essential if you’re going to an Irish festival and pink is SO popular this season. If you’re fed up of the pretty shade, there are other colours available too.

Red Bar Back Matte Dress, €16 at Penneys
This midi-length is ideal, you can go bare-legged without freezing your bum off. Style it with a cropped denim jacket and ankle boots, festival fashion sorted.

Eagles slogan bodysuit, €14 at PrettyLittleThing
Band tees are back with a bang this fashion season and at €14, this one is a serious bargain. You’ll stay toasty and cosy in this long-sleeved number and it looks good with denim, khaki and tan so styling is made easy.
