Prince William took some time away from his royal duties to spend time with Princess Catherine

Prince William has shared an update on Princess Catherine as he returns to official royal duties.

The dad-of-three greeted members of the public at the food distribution charity Surplus to Supper in Sunbury-on-Thames in Surrey.

He helped cook in the kitchen as well as load food to be distributed.

During his official visit, the future king spoke out about Princess Catherine following her cancer diagnosis.

One volunteer told the prince that they were keeping Kate in their thoughts.

He was also given two get-well-soon cards for Kate and reportedly looked “visibly moved” after the interaction.

After handing him the cards, the volunteer asked William to look after Kate. He then put his hand on her shoulder and promised “I will”.

The volunteer Rachel told reporters: “I said take care of her and he said ‘I will'”.

“I was at home at 8.30 last night and I thought I had to do something this is a chance to give a card directly to the palace officials.

She added: “I didn’t think I’d be able to give the cards to William. I said ‘can I shake your hand?’, I loved it, he was very down to earth. I’m never washing my hand again.”

In March, the Princess of Wales confirmed she was diagnosed with cancer in an emotional video in March.

She said the news has come as a huge shock, but her family has been supporting her through this harrowing time.

She shared: “This of course came as a huge shock, and William and I have been doing everything we can to process and manage this privately for the sake of our young family. As you can imagine, this has taken time.

“It has taken me time to recover from major surgery in order to start my treatment. But, most importantly, it has taken us time to explain everything to George, Charlotte and Louis in a way that is appropriate for them, and to reassure them that I am going to be OK.”
