Louise Thompson revealed she had a stoma bag earlier this month

The mum has been praised for being so open and honest about the life-changing moment. Louise’s incredible honesty has been praised online, which has encouraged her to share more of her story, including how her son reacted.

She said his reaction can teach us a lot about how we treat people with stoma bags.

“There are certainly many lessons we could learn from our children. My son has a really funny obsession with my ileostomy bag. I have no idea how he knows to say ‘poo poo’, but I guess he’s smarter than I thought.”

She gushed: “Isn’t it wonderful how unaffected our children are by awkward and ‘taboo’ subjects? If only we could all be this nonjudgmental… except when he points out a spot on my face in public and shouts ‘boo boo’.”

Louise explained that she wanted to share an off-the-cuff video about her stoma bag to help others feel understood.

She wrote: “I’m sharing this off-the-cuff video that Ryan captured when trying to get a ‘civilised outfit shot’ for every person that messaged me to say that they haven’t had the confidence to tell their friends and family they have a stoma…. Some of you for years (there are thousands of you btw).

“Nothing to be ashamed of. Still the same human on the inside. I haven’t had a personality transplant,” she stressed.

Louise said she can talk, walk, and dress the same and there’s nothing shameful about having a stoma.

We all need to follow in her son’s footsteps and normalise this.
