The enchanting Irish musician Reylta chatted to Her.ie about her career so far
For a tiny island, there’s so much musical talent, from big names to rising stars like Reylta. The musician opened up to Her.ie about the struggle of being an upcoming artist, the best thing about performing, and the musicians that inspire her most.
Performing is one of the best parts of her career, but it isn’t easy when you’re starting out. Reylta explained: “The hardest thing is the lack of faith from promoters and venue bookers. I’ve been let down by a few smaller rural theatres who see an all-female line-up and are immediately dismissive that it won’t ‘make financial sense’. That’s a real quote.
“Playing live is everything! I love it all: the lights, sounds, smells. Nothing compares to being up there and connecting with the crowd. Sometimes I think it’s easier to be on stage than anywhere else in the world.”
Reylta praised bands like Florence and the Machine and The Killers for inspiring her.
She said she is in awe of both Florence Welch, Brandon Flowers, and Ireland’s own Hozier.
“I’m in awe of Florence and the Machine. Anyone who’s ever been to see her live will agree she’s enchanting. Her lyrics are so sweet and dark – and her voice. Stop the lights.
“Hozier for his lyrics and also his use of poetry throughout his work. The Killers really inspired my stage presence and performance.”
Reytla’s music is incredibly raw and moving with her songs featuring themes like self-image, mental health, domestic violence, and feeling like she doesn’t belong. Her moving lyrics and haunting voice will enchant every crowd she performs to.
She’s becoming more and more popular on the Emerald Isle, but Reylta has her eyes on “world domination” as well as touring in Japan. Another goal, one many Irish singers will relate to, is performing for Michael D. Higgins.
Her star is rising and it’s only a matter of time before she’s playing across every station and featuring in everyone’s Spotify Wrapped.
Reylta’s album ‘Everything Unsaved Will Be Lost’ is out now.
