Here it may be “Thank you, Penneys” as a stock response anytime you get a compliment on your clothing, but “Thank you, Primark” might be on the rise across the pond very soon with the news that the discount retailer is set to open another superstore.

The brains behind the bargain Mecca are set to buy the Pavilions Shopping Centre in Birmingham for an eye-watering £60 million and convert the premises into one of the UK’s biggest stores.

Situated in the centre of the city, Birmingham’s Pavilions covers 250,000 sq ft. Primark bosses are understood to be planning a store covering half of that area, with the remainder of the centre set to be sublet to other retailers.

The news comes hot on the heels of the announcement that Primark would extend to the US soon, with the first outlet planned for Boston and scheduled to open next year.
