This fashion power duo have 35 years experience in the industry between them and listened to direct feedback from Irish women when designing their clothing range... drum roll please!

Sonya Lennon and Brendan Courtney are the brains behind the aptly if not originally named brand Lennon Courtney. The focus of the collection is to offer the modern busy woman wardrobe solutions that nod to the trends without being a slave to them.

The design duo were on hand at the Arnotts spring/summer 2013 press preview to talk journalists through the 32 pieces with Sonya enthusiastically modelling a number of the pieces. This is when the clothes really come into their own. Since the silhouettes are so simple and the range comes in a muted palette of navy, black, oatmeal and grey, with neither sight nor sound of a pattern or print, they become more lust-worthy when seen on the female form. Without a doubt this is when the thought behind the design, from the length of a sleeve or skirt, becomes evident.

Brendan and Sonya have nicknamed the main line pieces the ‘wardrobe workhorses’ while the accessories such as the add-on collar and detachable peplum are the ‘show ponies.’ We love this idea as we’re all on the hunt for those magical items that will become go-to style staples but equally want those really fashiony bits and bobs that make our look current.

With the knowledge of what real woman have been craving in their wardrobes this team are well-placed to give it to them. And Brendan and Sonya’s passion for design is evident in the thought that’s been paid to shape, form and fabric. A number of pieces are made from a durable technological high-stretch fabric that offers support, conceals trouble areas and accents the good parts.

A considered feature of the range that made our ears prick up was what Sonya told us is the idea that each piece in the collection leans towards either accentuating or camouflaging the wearer’s waist. This is such a clever concept, as this is most women’s number one area of concern, we’re suprised another brand hasn’t beaten them to the punch!

There’s definitely an influence of Scandi style seen in the very pared back design and colour choices plus more than a bang of COS off the brand. This is no bad thing though as the Lennon Courtney offering is stylish yet understated and most importantly Irish designed with the knitwear produced on home turf.

The prices start at €54 and go up to €389 for the label’s showstopper occassion dress. You’ll have to wait until February to get up close and personal with the collection that will be exclusively stocked by Arnotts.
