Do You Take Thy High-Street Dress to Be Your Lawfully Wedded Outfit?

So it's the dress you're getting married in. That doesn't mean you have to spend a fortune. Find out why the high street is the place to go for your wedding dress...

Rebecca McKnight

The question has been popped. The ring is firmly on your finger. The time has come to start planning the wedding.

More importantly the time has come to start the search for your dream wedding dress but you’re not quite sure where to begin.

At Her.ie we say start with the high-street because you might just find exactly what you’re looking for. Here’s why:

  1. Lots of our favourite high-street shops are now doing a wedding range filled with all sorts of beautiful dresses, shoes and accessories. With the likes of House of Fraser, Topshop and Debenhams all offering wedding dresses there is now more variety than ever before. While not all of the stores will have their wedding range in-store they should be able to point you in the right direction.
  2. All of the high-street wedding dresses will be influenced by the current designer ones. Therefore you will get the same trends, shapes and styles on the high-street as you would in a designer boutique. If you spot a designer dress you like, we would advise you to scour the high-street ranges to bag yourself something similar. Think Monica out of Friends in The One with the Cheap Wedding Dress. And yes we mean the whistles as well!
  3. You know yourself that just because something is designer doesn’t mean it will fit you any better than something from the high-street. In fact high-street can often be more suitable for your shape and will have a better range of sizes. And so what if you have to take your high-street wedding dress to a tailor to get it tucked in here and there, you’d have to do the same with a designer dress.
  4. With high-street wedding dresses you are guaranteed to find something that will suit your budget. Let’s face it: times are hard at the moment. Prices for high-street wedding dresses usually range from around €250 which means you can spend as little or as much as you like. And just think, the more euros you save on your wedding dress the more you can spend on an outfit for your honeymoon.
  5. We’re not trying to take all the magic out of getting your wedding dress but the truth is that you are only going to wear it once. While we’re not saying don’t bother buying the dress of your dreams, we are saying that when it comes down to it you will be wearing the dress for a day so perhaps high-street would work better. You can always bag a pair of designer shoes as a compromise. After all you’re more likely to wear those again.

Whatever way you decide to go when it comes to your wedding dress, the best piece of advice we can offer is to have a good look around and feel free to compare high-street and designer. Just don’t think about it too long, you don’t want your dress to get scooped up by somebody else!
