The Clock Is Ticking Down To What Looks Set To Be A Thrilling End To The Women’s Premier League

It's going to be a VERY interesting weekend!

It’s all to play for this weekend in the Women’s Premier League and the competition is well and truly heating up as the season draws to a close.

Brunell are hoping to book their place in the Women’s Premier League Final with a win over DCU Mercy this coming Sunday.

The Cork team came from behind last weekend to secure victory over the Dublin side, but they now have just a three-point cushion going into the second leg this weekend.

Brunell are well-known for their fantastic away form this season though, and captain Danielle O’Leary was hopeful ahead of this Sunday’s clash.

“It doesn’t faze us going to Dublin for another game,” she said. “It’s a huge opportunity.”

The side will be hoping to improve on their performance from the first leg, which saw them seal a win by just 53 to 50. However, their blistering comeback is one for the annals as they trailed by 12 with less than ten minutes to go.

They will be hoping to pull on that grit and determination again this weekend, but DCU Mercy have other ideas.

“We couldn’t steady the ship and got outscored 21-6 down the stretch,” admitted DCU Mercy’s Sarah McGrath.

“Going into the game, we’d have probably taken the three-point defeat, but when you look at the manner of the game it’s actually infuriating,” she said.

Elsewhere, there is an uphill battle waiting for Leixlip’s Court Yard LIffey Celtics as they head into the second leg of their semi-final this weekend with a 30-point deficit against favourites Team Montenotte Hotel.

The Kildare side reached the playoffs for the first time this season, but will need to dig deep this weekend in order to book a coveted spot in the final.
