We'd sooner attend a dinner party rather than host one, but one woman was left shocked after a recent visit to her friend's house.
Her friend invited her to a dinner party at her house, but it didn't go as she expected.
She explained that she went to her friend's house for dinner, who wanted all guests to pay for their meal.
She told Mumsnet: "We were invited to a friend's house for dinner. Took a bottle of good wine with us, we wouldn’t ever go empty-handed."
"We had a good meal, but they sent us a message after asking for money for each person," she revealed.
"I thought this was crazy and I would never ask anyone to pay for their food if I invited them over," the woman said.
She was unsure if she should be annoyed by her friend's actions, but most users agreed that it was wrong.
"We’ve already arranged to have them to ours in a few weeks time and I’m not asking them for anything!" she said.
The friend asked them for €20 each to cover the cost of the meal.
"We really enjoy their company, they’re great friends. It’s just this I can’t get over," the woman admitted.
We were very much invited! They’d just moved so wanted to host at their new apartment.
Also, wouldn't it be easier to just go out to a restaurant if a friend expected you to fork out for a meal?
"That's unbelievably rude. I would be absolutely mortified to know someone that tight," another said.
What would you do in this situation?
