“Happy birthday, Jesus. Sorry your birthday’s so lame”
When that Christmas Day lull hits and you’re searching for something to watch, The Office won’t let you down.
To make your choice easier, we’ve compiled a list of all the Christmas-themed episodes from this hilarious sitcom.
“Christmas Party” (Season 2, Episode 10)
First up is Dunder Mifflin’s iconic Christmas party.
In this episode, the office staff take part in a Secret Santa gift exchange, with a $20 spending limit in place. Naturally, Michael Scott being Michael Scott, completely ignores the rule and gifts an iPod, setting the stage for plenty of awkward, cringe-worthy, and hilarious moments.
As if that weren’t enough, he ups the ante by breaking company policy and bringing alcohol into the mix.
This episode also features some standout moments for Jim and Pam’s relationship, making it a fan favourite.
An absolute must-watch.
“A Benihana Christmas” (Season 3, Episode 10)
As tensions rise between Angela and Karen (Jim’s new love interest) on the party planning committee, the office Christmas party hilariously splits into two separate events.
Meanwhile, Michael, reeling from a recent breakup, decides to embrace the single life—with predictably disastrous and cringe-worthy results.
“Moroccan Christmas” (Season 5, Episode 11)
After a hiatus, fans were finally treated to a new Christmas-themed episode.
This time, Phyllis takes charge of the Party Planning Committee and throws a Moroccan-themed Christmas party—a decision that enrages Angela as much as Phyllis’s newfound authority does.
Viewers get a glimpse of a more ruthless side of Phyllis as the power goes straight to her head.
The party takes a darker, yet hilariously chaotic turn when Meredith has one too many drinks. Without giving too much away, the consequences of her overindulgence range from outrageous to laugh-out-loud funny.
“Secret Santa” (Season 6, Episode 13)
Michael is determined to play Santa Claus, but his festive spirit takes a nosedive when he learns that Jim has given the role to Phyllis.
And, as always, when Michael is miserable, everyone else must suffer too.
In true Michael Scott fashion, he decides that dressing as Jesus is the next best option, using the opportunity to torment Phyllis while she cheerfully hands out Christmas gifts.
However, the holiday cheer takes a dark turn when CEO David Wallace reveals that the entire office is at risk of losing their jobs.
“Classy Christmas” (Season 7, Episode 11 & 12)
This will forever be one of my favourite episodes of The Office, and for good reason.
Not only is it absolutely hilarious, but it’s also Michael Scott’s final Christmas at Dunder Mifflin before Steve Carell’s bittersweet departure from the show and his iconic role.
“Classy Christmas” spans two episodes and marks the much-anticipated return of Michael’s soulmate, Holly Flax, to Scranton.
In typical Michael fashion, he decides the office party needs a classier and sexier vibe, all in an effort to win Holly back and convince her to leave her current boyfriend, A.J. If you thought Michael was over-the-top on a regular day, Michael in love takes it to a whole new level.
Meanwhile, Jim and Dwight’s escalating snowball fight leaves them both hilariously paranoid and on edge.
“Christmas Wishes” (Season 8, Episode 10)
This marks our first Christmas with a new branch manager, Andy Bernard—aka the Nard-Dog—and a new Dunder Mifflin CEO, Robert California, who somehow manages to be the most unnerving and cringy character in the office.
Ever the people-pleaser, Andy sets out to fulfil everyone’s Christmas wishes while also pleading with the team to be kind and welcoming to his new girlfriend, Jessica.
Things take a chaotic turn when Andy’s former flame, Erin, drinks a bit too much, leading to a stressful situation for Andy and some hilariously awkward moments for viewers.
“Dwight Christmas” (Season 9, Episode 9)
Any Dwight-centric episode is always a comedic highlight, making this one a perfect choice to round out our list.
In classic Dwight style, he sets up a Pennsylvanian Dutch-themed office Christmas party. Unsurprisingly, it’s met with a lukewarm response from the staff, as no one really understands it—a recurring theme in Dwight’s life.
Dwight hilariously embraces the role of Belsnickel, a traditional winter gift-bringer, complete with German cuisine and a spirited game of “Naughty or Nice.”
Meanwhile, Jim, now juggling two jobs, has to leave early, much to the disappointment of both Pam and Dwight. Despite the bittersweet moments, this episode is a heartwarming and fitting farewell to the series’ Christmas celebrations.
The perfect final holiday episode for The Office.
In the words of Michael Scott: “Christmas is awesome. First of all, you get to spend time with people you love. Secondly, you can get drunk and no one can say anything. Third, you give presents.”
Have a good one!
