One of the most glittering stars from the golden age of Hollywood has passed away, aged 104.
Luise Rainer, the first actor to win back-to-back Oscars, died at her London home on Tuesday from complications related to pneumonia.
Her only daughter, Francesca Knittel-Bowyer, confirmed the news, saying: “She was bigger than life and can charm the birds out of the trees.”
“If you saw her, you’d never forget her.”

Rainer claimed the Academy Award for Best Actress in both 1936 and 1937, for her roles in The Great Ziegfeld and The Good Earth respectively. Since then, only four other stars have achieved this feat.
