People have a serious issue with Meghan and Harry’s birthday message to Prince William

Rebecca O'Keeffe

Ah here.

So, today is Prince William’s 37th birthday.

Gorgeous day of celebration for the man who will eventually become King of England.

And as is the norm with a royal birthday, a number of official tributes were shared on social media today, on behalf of the royal family.

The Kensington Palace Instagram account shared a smiley photo of the birthday boy today, thanking people for the birthday wishes.

“Thank you everyone for your lovely wishes on The Duke of Cambridge’s birthday!”

And the official page for The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Meghan and Harry, commented under the snap.

“Happy Birthday to The Duke of Cambridge!” they wrote.

Grand like. Not exactly a heartfelt poem, but fine.

However, many others were less than impressed with the comment, claiming it was “too formal” and “cold”.

“It’s your own brother, why the need to be so formal?” wrote one confused follower.

Another said: “Wouldn’t wishing your brother a happy birthday sound more gentle? This reads like there is hostility.”

Meanwhile, a Royal Family fan account wrote: “Sharing a photo of two brothers with a kind message would be so nice.”

People are also fairly convinced that there’s a rift between the Cambridges and the Sussexes.

Earlier this week, it was confirmed that the Royal Foundation – the charity set up by Prince William and Prince Harry – would be separated as the Sussex and Cambridge households focus on their own charitable endeavours.

Hmmm…
