How These Leonardo DiCaprio Fans Might Finally Bag Him An Oscar

Now that's dedication

Ellen Tannam

It’s a running joke that poor aul Leonardo DiCaprio is just sweating for an Oscar, and it looks like The Revenant could be his chance to grab a statuette.

His turn as a frontiersman brutally attacked by a bear is generating serious buzz, and we’re sure he’s praying for a win.

He’s been nominated six times and never once actually won the thing. However, if this doesn’t work out for him at the end of February, a group of Russian fans have got his back. Siberian fans are gathering gold and silver to be melted down and made into an Oscar statuette for the actor, because they feel bad he hasn’t won the coveted Best Actor award.

Mashable report that Tatyana Yegorova from Yakutia, told a Russian news agency that: ‘Yakutia praises high-quality cinema and considers DiCaprio to be an actor who can inspire and delight his audiences.’

Instead of a normal statuette, the special edition for Leo will be holding a goblet: ‘…symbolizing peace and expressing the people’s love for the actor.’ according to Yegorova.

100 fans have donated to the cause already.
