Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will never win
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle may have stepped down from the royal family in 2021, but they’ve continued to experience extreme public scrutiny despite living on their own terms.
They decided to bid farewell to the royals after realising that the monarchy’s way of living was harming their mental health. Meghan Markle has often spoken out about how the institution is incredibly unhealthy and stepping back was urgent for both her and Harry’s relationship, as well as their mental health.
In that famous interview with Oprah, the mum-of-two said the royals failed to protect them. Not only was their family neglecting them, but they were also failing to protect them.
Markle told Oprah: “That was hard to reconcile because it was only once we were married and everything started to really worsen.
“I came to understand that not only was I not being protected, but that they were willing to lie to protect other members of the family.”
Why would they stay with a family who failed to care for them? Why should they put up with an onslaught of abuse from the British press? One Prince Harry felt mirrored the treatment of his mother, Princess Diana.
Leaving was never going to be an easy decision for them, but it was definitely the right one.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle wanted respect not to be shunned from society
They wanted to start over and live the lives they had always hoped for, ones that felt safe.
They set up a new life in America, away from the British press and public hatred, but they couldn’t even start over without people judging their every step.
Since moving to America, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have been slated for every public appearance they’ve made.
The pair recently attended the premiere of ‘Bob Marley: One Love’ but were quickly called out for it.
As soon as photos of their recent outing spread online, people slated the pair for being in the public eye. They never said they wanted to go into hiding forever, but they wanted respect and privacy, just like everyone else.
They didn’t want photographers chasing them, or royal officials leaking sensitive issues to the press.
They’re famously known for wanting their own space and privacy, but does that mean they can never appear in public again? Certainly not. They should be free to live their lives as they wish. They’re able to have privacy without hiding away in their Montecito mansion.
Meghan and Harry aren’t everyone’s cup of tea but don’t they deserve to live their life as they please?
