Add us as a preferred source on Google »Being a teenager was a complicated time for us all, but it was also the era that had the best teen movies. I know we all want to seem cool and watch all the Oscar-nominated movies and documentaries, but as a twenty-something teenager, I'd sooner watch 'Wild Child' or 'The Princess Diaries'.
The movies that shaped us as teenagers will always hold a special place in our hearts. They're the greatest comfort and a huge source of nostalgia for many women. They instantly take us back to the days of Bebo, Dream Matte Mousse, and Tommy Girl.
The Her team has taken a walk down memory lane to reveal their favourite movies from their teenage years. Did your favourite film make the cut?
The glitz and glamour of 'Moulin Rouge' was the first movie to introduce me to the chaotic world of Baz Luhrmann. It brought the magic of the theatre into my sitting room with extravagant costumes, dreamscape sets, and songs that still do well at karaoke to this day. You can't beat a tragic love story with a star-studded line-up.
"Waiting for you is like waiting for rain in this drought: useless and disappointing." Mine is 'A Cinderella Story'. It was always my go-to movie to watch with my friends or myself. Queen Jennifer Coolidge ate that role!
My favourite film as a teen was Ladybird because a) I had a crush on Saoirse Ronan and b) I think it was at a time in my life that I was realising my parents don’t always have the right answers and sometimes you’ve got to figure things out on your own.
Lady Bird's relationship with her mother was so relatable because I was always butting heads with my mam. I realised it was because she only wanted the best for me and I kept thinking that meant no. It just meant she didn't want me getting hurt.
Angus, Thongs, and Perfect Snogging is a work of art. Georgie Nicholson is honestly one of my favourite female protagonists. She is naive, chaotic, and incredibly goofy, but so loveable. She hasn't got it all figured out, her eyebrows are a mess, and she's hopelessly crushing on Robbie. The film perfectly sums up your teenage years with a flawless soundtrack too.
For me, Wild Child will always be a hit. From the iconic cast and the relatable eyebrow scene with Drippy, to Harriet's lol-worthy Keira Knightley obsession, Freddie Kingsley, and Sugababes galore. Wild Child is one of those teenage films we all happily watch time and time again.
