Tried and tested: I reviewed 5 ultra dark tans and my favourite one was only €16

Rebecca O'Keeffe

Bronzed and beautiful!

Okay, so none of us can deny the fact that a nice lick of tan makes everything better.

Seriously, I always feel flawless when I have a bronzed glow.

And for someone who doesn’t naturally tan (not fair), I simply swear by fake tan.

One thing I have noticed this year is that tan brands are all releasing ‘extra dark’ shades.

I’m that basic bitch who wants to be as tanned as humanly possible, so these extra dark options are unreal.

I have tried out pretty much every tan I can get my pale little hands on, and these are my faves:

5. Bellamianta Self Tanning Mousse Ultra Dark €22.95 .

This bad boy has everything you love about the original Bellamianta tan mousse, just darker! This easy to use self-tanning mousse gives you a gorgeous deep olive colour. The formula is bursting with natural extracts perfect for all skin types, especially dry skin in need of a bit of attention (guilty).

4. Cocoa Brown Ultra Dark 1 Hour Tan €9.95.

This baby is Cocoa Brown’s deepest, darkest shade yet! It’s as convenient to use as the original Cocoa Brown 1 Hour Tan, but darker than ever. This Cocoa Brown Tan in Ultra Dark simply glides on with an instant colour and develops into a rich and deep tan that lasts for up to 7 days in just one hour. HANDY.

3. St Tropez Extra Dark Bronzing Mousse €44.95 .

You can kind of pick and choose your darkness level with this, which is amazing. Simply apply and rinse off after 4 hours for a dark tan or after 8 hours for an intense but natural-looking, extra dark tan that lasts for days. Would it be weird to bathe in it?

2. bBold Xtra Dark Self Tan Mousse €17.

Oddly, my favourite thing about this tan was its moisturising aspect. Sure, it gives you an even, natural-looking tan, but you feel so soft and ;lovely after using it. Streak-free and effortless to apply, this lightweight formula smooths onto the skin for a healthy glowing finish that lasts for up to seven days.

1.Bondi Sands Tan Foam Ultra Dark €16 .

To be perfectly honest, I’d use this even if it was useless, purely because it smells like coconuts. Heaven. Thankfully though, it works as good as it smells. This fabulous lightweight self-tanning foam will develop so well, people will think you’ve been on holiday. And it’s only 16 quid. Perfecto.
