Team Her.ie talk a lot and the chat varies from bra sizes to embarrassing crushes and everything in between.
Tried and tested beauty products often come up in conversation, which can be very helpful when you want to find out about a certain item before purchasing.
This week we’re talking shampoo. It’s an essential part of your beauty routine but it can be difficult to choose the best one for your hair type. Clarifying, curling, colour care, shine, fine, thick, sensitive and sleek and that’s only the beginning.
With so many to choose from, we decided to round up the best of the bunch.
I’m a big fan of L’Oréal for budget beauty buys. As a relatively inexpensive beauty brand, their products are one of the best examples of the trickle down effect. L’Oréal owns some of the biggest names in luxury beauty, so the money spent on research and expertise filters down through all brands in the stable. The Fibrology line rocked my world when it was released this year.
Designed to enhance the hair fibre from within, scientific tests have proven that these products increase the diameter of the fibre with every wash. The effect is not permanent and you need to keep using the products to maintain the increased volume in the fibre, but at only €5.84 for the shampoo and conditioner, it’s easy on your pocket and excellent on your hair.
For an added boost you can opt for the Thickness Booster, €9.19, and for a treat for your tresses you can try the Intensive Texturising Masque, €8.49.
My favourite shampoo is Charles Worthington Salon at Home Volume & Bounce (€6.99). I have really, really fine hair so whenever I wash my hair with just normal shampoo, it tends to look a little limp.
This is really good for my hair and also manages to strengthen it, which is really important for me! It is a little bit more expensive, working out at about €7 a bottle but it is entirely worth it.
Dying your hair at home, using a lot of styling products and opting for cheaper shampoos and conditioners can leave you with a lot of build-up and for anyone who lacks volume anyway, this is a nightmare.
This L’Oreal Pure Resource Shampoo (€13.85) is designed to take away all of this residue and it leaves you with clean and bouncy hair.
When it comes to shampoo, I’m happy to shell out a little more for a really good quality shampoo that keeps my hair thick, shiny and in good condition. I was actually told about Vichy Dercos Nutri-Repair Cream Shampoo (€10.50) from a friend who felt it really worked on her tired locks, and I’ve never looked back.
After a week I could see my hair wasn’t as dry and brittle anymore, and it left a really nice glossy finish too. It can be a little hard to find locally, but you’ll definitely get it in bigger pharmacies. It’s definitely worth hunting down!
When it comes to looking after my hair, there’s one shampoo that I use religiously at home. Trilogy’s Smooth and Nourish shampoo is by far one of the best on the market.
You hair feels so light and full of nourishment, and you have that just shampooed feeling throughout the day. Not only that but it leaves your hair so silky. Sadly, it’s a bit on the pricey side at over €15 but it’s worth it!
I adore Aveda products and have been a long-time ambassador of the line’s range for curly hair. The ‘Be Curly’ range consists of four products – a shampoo, conditioner, curl enhancement cream and styler. It is important to note that all all four items do not need to be used in order to achieve the desired non-frizzy look (what us wavy-haired ladies all want and need).
Each one works perfectly individually, particularly the shampoo (€22). Like all Aveda products the price tag is a little more than other brands championing the same results however none live up to the promises. Trust me – I know. *Shakes perfect curls in the wind*
In its natural state, my hair is as flat as a pancake and as frizzy as I don’t know what! But when I use John Frieda Luxurious Volume Thickening Shampoo (€7.79), it looks completely different.
This shampoo not only gives my hair some volume but it makes it look shiny without being greasy, which is a huge plus for someone who used to have to wash their hair every day.
I’m desperate for changing between different products when it comes to make-up, skin and hair care. My sister is a hairdresser and I tend to rely on her when it comes to advice for taming my (very) unruly tresses. She swears by the Redken range and as my hair is so thick I find the clarifying shampoo is great when it comes to cleansing my hair of product build-up.
It’s expensive at €21.99 but I sometimes use a cheaper brand (Pantene works a treat and for some reason I seem to love changing products all the time) in between washes so it’s not too bad!
