Margot Robbie ‘didn’t know what sexual harassment was’ before reading Bombshell script

“Shocked me.”

Margot Robbie said that she didn’t know what constituted sexual harassment before she read the script for Bombshell.

The film, also starring Charlize Theron and Nicole Kidman, tells the story of a group of women working at Fox News who take it upon themselves to expose CEO Roger Ailes’s sexual harassment.

In the movie, Robbie plays Kayla Pospisil, a fictional character based on multiple women who worked at Fox News during that time.

The Australian actor told the Herald Sun that she only learned what sexual harassment actually was once she read the script.

“I didn’t know what sexual harassment was,” she said.

“One of the lines that shocked me when I first read the script was that sexual harassment includes any unwelcome sexual advances.

“I always thought it required physical contact for it to be considered illegal or wrong.”

Robbie added that learning more about sexual misconduct – and the thousands of women who have been affected by it in their workplaces – encouraged her to join the movie.

She also said that she wanted to do justice for the women’s stories that her character was based on.

Bombshell is released in Ireland on January 24, 2020.
