Star Wars: A New Hope live in concert is coming to Dublin and it sounds unreal

Keeley Ryan

A long, long time ago in a galaxy not so far away…

The last couple of years have seen a huge number of movies and TV shows’ scores being played by a live orchestra.

From Game of Thrones to Harry Potter, Love Actually to Beauty and the Beast, the events have gone down a storm with Irish audiences over the last year or so.

But the latest addition has us particularly excited.

Star Wars: A New Hope is getting the live orchestral treatment later this year.

The event will take place in Dublin’s 3Arena on December 5, 2018.

The 82 piece RTÉ Symphony Orchestra will be playing John Williams’ Oscar-winning musical score alongside the film.

They will be conducted by Dave Mahoney.

Grant Watmuff, Licensing & Strategic Partnerships Manager at Disney Music Group, said:

“We’re delighted that Star Wars fans will have the opportunity to experience the music of the movie performed live to picture in Ireland for the first time.

“From the opening fanfare to the final note, John Williams’ score for Star Wars: A New Hope is a genre defining master class of cinematic composition.”

Williams is well known for scoring all eight of the Star Wars saga films, beginning with 1977’s Star Wars: A New Hope for which he earned an Academy Award® for Best Original Score.

His scores for Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back, Star Wars: Return of the Jedi, and Star Wars: The Force Awakens each were nominated for Oscars® for Best Original Score.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi was released on December 15, 2017, and was Ireland and the UK’s biggest film of 2017.

Tickets go on sale this Thursday, February 1, at 9am from Ticketmaster and the usual outlets.
