VIDEO: We’ve Probably Found the Strangest Village Event In Ireland

And in fairness, it looks like some craic...

That’s one way to get a round on the house!

Have you ever been to Ballitore in Co. Kildare? After watching this, there’s every chance you’ll want to visit. Ballintore is home to an annual Barrel Race, where teams of four kick an empty barrel for about a mile and a half, leading to a glorious celebratory finish line in the middle of the village.

As far as rules go; you must only roll the barrel with your feet. No carrying – if the barrel goes into the ditch you can pick it up and place on road again and continue.

The event was recently held to raise funds for  local man Jimmy Byrne and the National Council for the Blind Ireland to raise much needed funds.

As for the winning team? They get a full keg of beer. Hopefully one that hasn’t been kicked for a mile and a half.

Hat Tip: Huge thanks to Birdie Corcoran for sending this one our way.
