Forever 21 slammed for sending diet bars to customers who ordered plus-size clothes

“This was an oversight on our part.”

Forever 21 has come under fire for sending diet bars to customers who ordered plus-size clothing.

The fashion retailer was caught delivering Atkins protein bars to customers as a “special promotion.” Most of the customers appeared to be those shopping the brand’s plus-size range.

One woman who ordered size 18 jeans from Forever 21 said she opened her package to find the bar inside.

“I went from a size 24 to 18, still a plus size girl, so I ordered jeans from @Forever21,” she wrote on Twitter.

“Opened the package, when I looked inside I see this Atkins bar.

“What are you trying to Tell me Forever 21, I’m FAT, LOSE WEIGHT? do you give these to NON-PLUS SIZE WOMEN as well?”

The woman’s tweet – and several others – have since garnered a lot of attention on social media, with many criticising the brand’s decision as “fat-phobic” and “dangerous.”

Forever 21 later issued a statement on the matter, apologising for any offence caused by their “special promotion.”

“From time to time, Forever 21 surprises our customers with free test products from third parties in their e-commerce orders,” they said.

“The freebie items in question were included in all online orders, across all sizes and categories, for a limited time and have since been removed.

“This was an oversight on our part and we sincerely apologize for any offense this may have caused to our customers, as this was not our intention in any way.”

Forever 21 closed their Dublin store in January 2018.
