Gardaí are investigating an alleged assault on a five-year-old girl by three boys under the age of 10.
A report was made to Gardaí alleging that the girl was lured to a derelict house and attacked there.
The report said that the girl was hit with a stick before managing to escape.
She was not seriously injured but has received medical treatment and is traumatised by the incident.
RTE reports that the complaint was made to Gardaí by the girl’s parents within the past two weeks.
Detectives must conduct formal interviews with all parties involved before they can establish the facts.
The alleged attack is being investigated by Gardaí from a local specialist unit, the Divisional Protective Services Unit.
Tusla and the Child and Family Agency have also been made aware of the case.
It is unlikely that any of the children will face prosecution as they are all under the age of criminal responsibility.
