Shay Lynch sadly passed away following a drowning accident

The heartbroken family of Shay Lynch has confirmed his funeral details.

The young boy tragically died in a drowning accident at the Lakeside Hotel and Leisure Centre in Killaloe.

The tragic accident happened on Saturday, April 21st. Emergency services rushed the young boy to University Hospital Limerick but he was sadly pronounced dead at the hospital.

Shay’s family confirmed he passed away following a “tragic accident”.

The young boy is survived “by his heartbroken family, parents James, and Tania, sister Abi, grandparents Jerome, Joe and Kathleen, aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family, neighbours, and his many friends”.

Shay will be laid to rest on Wednesday, April 24th. His funeral service will take place in St. Senan’s Church, Clonlara, at 11:00 am. The service will be followed by burial in St Thomas’ Church grounds, Bridgetown.

The hotel has spoken out following the incident and will close the leisure centre for the coming days.

The Lakeside Hotel and Leisure Centre stated: “We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our lifeguards, team members and the emergency services who did all they could in responding to this incident.”

Hundreds of tributes have been paid to Shay Lynch following his untimely passing.

Taoiseach Simon Harris said: “Absolutely heartbreaking. I know people right across Ireland are keeping this family and the community of Clonlara in Co Clare in their thoughts and prayers at such a sad and difficult time.”

The principal of Scoil Seanáin Naofa, Donnchadh Kelleher remembered Shay as a child with “a bright smile and his kind heart endeared him to everyone in our school community”.
