Apple has announced that it is to launch its own music streaming service.
The company confirmed the news at a conference this evening, revealing that it aims to attract 100 million subscribers to its new Apple Music service.
The new service will be a major rival to Spotify and will also feature a 24/7 worldwide radio station called Beats One, which will reportedly see Dr. Dre, Will I Am, Pharrell, and Drake acting as DJs.
“We’ve had a long relationship with music, and music has had a rich history of change, some of which we’ve played a part in,” said Tim Cook.
“Today we’re announcing Apple Music… [and] it will change the way you will experience music forever.”
Apple’s iTunes platform has been heavily hit by the rising popularity of streamed music and it is hoped that Apple Music will help the company win back its previous audience.
Apple Music will be available from June 30 for both Apple and Android devices.
