Earlier this year, it was announced that the Riverdale universe would be expanding once again.
Yes, that’s right: following in the footsteps of The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, a brand new spin-off series has been announced.
Katy Keene stars Pretty Little Liars’ Lucy Hale as the title character (and fashion legend-to-be) and focuses on “the lives and loves of four iconic Archie Comics characters as they chase their twenty-something dreams in New York City.”
Singer/songwriter Josie McCoy (played by Riverdale’s Ashleigh Murray), mysterious socialite Pepper Smith (Julia Chan) and Broadway-bound performer Jorge Lopez — and his drag queen alter ego, Ginger (Jonny Beauchamp) — round out the core group of characters.
Katy Keene was given a series order earlier this month and, today [May 16], the CW shared the first trailer from the series.
It’s a very brief glimpse at the core four charters – but is anyone else getting some serious Gossip Girl vibes?

According to TV Line, Katy Keene is currently scheduled for a midseason premiere – meaning that it won’t air on TV in North America until January 2020 at the earliest.
There’s no word yet on when the series will debut over here (or if it will at all) – but we’re keeping our fingers crossed it won’t be too far behind.
Showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa recently addressed the possibility of a crossover between Riverdale and Katy Keene in an interview with The Wrap.
Weighing in on the possibility of Josie coming back for flashback crossovers, he said it was “more likely” Riverdale characters would be popping up in New York in the future.
“We think that that might be a little more fun, and less confusing, than Josie going back in time to visit Riverdale,” he added.
