Who needs sleep, anyways?
HBO is debuting a brand new horror anthology series – and it looks absolutely terrifying.
Folklore will take place across six Asian countries: Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, and Thailand, according to Entertainment Weekly.
Each hour within the six-episode miniseries will be based around the myths and folklore of one of the countries – and bring to life some of their notorious myths and folklore.
Every one f the episodes will feature a different director and will take place in the country’s language.
For example, the episode set in Indonesia – A Mother’s Love – follows a mum and her young son who discover a group of dirty and underfed children living in the attic of a mansion. They return them to their families, thinking they have saved them.
However, it turns out that a creature named Wewe Gombel had taken the children into her care – and she’s not too happy to find them missing…

The episode set in Malaysia, Toyol, follows a Member of Parliament (MP) of a fishing town turns to a mysterious woman who possesses shamanistic powers in order to salvage his town’s dire economic situation.
She fixes all his problems and the two soon become lovers. However, the woman has a dark secret that threatens to destroy his life.
The rest of the episodes sound equally as chilling – we’re not going to spoil any other details, though. You can check out the trailer below.

Folklore will premiere on February 1 on HBO in North America. An Irish date has not yet been set – but we’d imagine this will definitely be headed for Sky Atlantic at some point.
