Richard Curtis has written Notting Hill Two – but not as a movie

The man behind the film ‘Notting Hill’ has revealed he’s written a sequel – but it’s not a movie.

Richard Curtis has said that he put pen to paper and created the next chapter of the bittersweet romance that saw Hugh Grant and Julia Roberts fall in love.

In an interview on the Have You Seen podcast, the beloved comedy writer revealed that he had created a rather unconventional sequel to the flick.

“I was going to do it for Comic Relief… I wrote ‘Notting Hill Two’, which was going to be a 10-minute special set in the divorce lawyer’s office with Hugh and Julia splitting up, and then they both realised they loved each other again,” he explained.

Though we are yet to see this dream become a reality, there’s always a chance as Richard co-founded Comic Relief with Sir Lenny Henry and has previously revised his past work for the charity event.

However, leading man Hugh Grant likely won’t return to play meek bookshop owner William Thacker.

Curtis explained that the 63-year-old had turned down the opportunity to work on a different comic relief idea with him.

The writer explained that the short film was going to be called ‘Meet Cute’, where the main character’s name was Cute.

“John Cute. Meet John Cute. Again, it was a thing for Comic Relief, I had this idea that I was going to write a sequence of 10-minute films and I talked to Hugh Grant about it.

“Every episode was going to be a ‘Meet Cute’ where he met somebody, and then by the end of the episode, they were going to have split up, and then we’d have another ‘Meet Cute,'” he said.

“And Hugh, who is, a man who’s 90 percent charity, everything about him is aiming to make the world a better place… and eventually, after consideration, he quoted me quite a large amount of money that he was going to give to Comic Relief not to do it. So it never happened!”
