Late Late Show viewers point out major format change – and they’re not too pleased

Anna Martin

Many people are fans of Patrick Kielty’s Late Late Show but there’s one thing throwing them.

It’s not the presenter himself, in fact, most are enjoying the new energy he brings and it isn’t the guests, though this week people had divided opinions.

No, it’s something else completely and we’re not sure if Patrick can do much about it himself.

Taking to X, formerly Twitter, to vent many viewers pointed out that since Patrick had taken over the show’s running time is shorter.

They expressed that they felt this was having an impact on the quality of the interviews as guests weren’t able to tell detailed stories like before.

Tweeting about last night’s show, one person wrote, “Blindboy got lots, (too much, lots) Alistair got some and more and Anne-Marie got less much much less…”

“No disrespect to Patrick Kielty at all but he’s rushing the interviews with each guest. The @RTELateLateShow should go back to finishing at 11:20/11:30 pm so interviews can be longer,” wrote one viewer.

While another copped that Robbie Henshaw and Peter Ryan’s interview felt more like a sprint than a chat.

“Ahh lads slow it down there Patrick, they had barely got their arses in their seats and the interviews are over,” they penned.

Elsewhere people weren’t impressed with Blindboy on talk show, with some saying seeing a man with a plastic bag on his head on their screens was confusing.

One person commented: “My mother says who’s on the Late Late Show now? As she puts the kettle on and I shout out to her, some lad with a plastic bag on his head !!!!”

Blindboy, who is best known for his podcast, discussed his new book about Limerick, Topographia Hibernica, as well as being diagnosed with autism.

Though people seemed to be frustrated, Patrick might have just made up for it a tiny bit when he announced next week’s guests – Take That!
