“I’m still really devastated by the fact that he’s gone”

Zac Efron has opened up about the death of his past co-star Matthew Perry just weeks after the news of his passing broke.

The pair were acted alongside one another in the hit film ‘17 Again’ back in 2009.

After the Friends’ star’s death, it was confirmed that he had hoped Efron would depict him in a biopic about his life.

Today, Zac spoke to US outlet, Extra, about his devastation over his passing and said he would have been honoured to play the role of Perry.

“I was hugely honoured,” Efron told Extra.

“It would be extraordinary to do and, of course, I’m still really devastated by the fact that he’s gone.”

Perry died of an alleged drowning at his LA home on October 28th. Further details about his cause of death have yet to be confirmed.

The news came as a shock to fans and friends, as model Athenna Crosby – who was one of the last people to be in Matthew’s company said he spoke if his excitement about sharing his recovery from addiction with the world.

Speaking to Entertainment Tonight just days after his passing, Athena said: “He was just looking forward to sharing more about his story and his recovery from addiction, and really championing that cause to help more people, so he was so optimistic and happy about everything that he wanted to do.”

She went on to deter people from speculating about his death and said he was “on a comeback and truly deserved more time on this earth.

“He was so happy & vibrant,” she wrote on her Instagram story when news of his death broke.

“Please refrain from any speculation surrounding his death and know that the man was on a comeback and truly deserved more time on this earth.

“Our entertainment industry has truly lost a legend.”
