Conan O’Brien paid a visit to Ireland’s greatest landmark
We’re not talking about New Grange or the Cliffs of Mohr, no, this was something much more historic than those two put together – Obama Plaza.
Appearing on the Late Late Show to chat with Patrick Kielty, the American chat show host revealed he had visited the rest stop while filming his new show ‘Conan O’Brien Must Go.’
“I visited what I think is the greatest tribute to any American president – and I’ve seen them all – and it’s Barack Obama Plaza,” he said to Patrick.
“It’s not often you can pay homage to a bronze statue of a president and the first lady and then get a pretty decent sandwich at the same time.”
Yet he didn’t just get to enjoy some good grub on his travels, the plaza bestowed him with a great honour!
“Check it out, they named an air hose after me!” he said, as a a photo of the pump appeared on screen, showing the pump and a sign above it which read “Conan O’Brien Air Pump”.
“This is real – the Conan O’Brien air pump!” he said while joking that he is to receive 15% of the profits of the device.
Conan didn’t just get to see the plaza while on his travels around Ireland, he had a bit of work to do, namely a cameo in the long-running Irish language soap, ‘Ros na Rún.’
Though excited to be a part of the show, the comedian admitted that it was “one of hardest things I’ve ever done” because he doesn’t speak Irish.
So to combat this problem, the crew wrote his lines phonetically.
“I was looking at it and I didn’t think I could do it. The cast was really helpful – they helped me write it out phonetically,” Conan said.
“I just did what I was told and it’s going to be a great episode.”
We’ll have to tune in to be the judge of that one!
