Nicola Coughlan is the leading lady in season three of Bridgerton

Irish actress Nicola Coughlan is set to become a leading lady in the upcoming series of Bridgerton.

The Derry Girls star will return as Penelope Featherington in the new season and we cannot wait to see her shine in the main role.

The actress is finally getting her major moment in the spotlight and recently opened up about the Netflix hit.

Nicola Coughlan joined Shonda Rhimes, Jess Brownell, and author Julia Quinn during a Q&A with her Bridgerton co-stars in London this week.

Excitement is bubbling as we get closer to season three and Coughlan promised fans that it will be as romantic as ever.

The actress explained to the audience that staying true to the book was so important to her and her co-star Luke Newton.

She said they wanted to ensure fans would be happy with how Colin and Penelope’s love story unfolded on screen with many nods to the books featured in the third season.

Nicola said: “I hope this season will make people who feel unseen finally feel seen. I hope it shows people they deserve love.

“Season three is for the wallflowers,” the actress added.

Shonda Rhimes and Jess Brownell even revealed one scene that made it from the book to the screen.

They revealed that a fan-favourite moment from ‘Romancing Mr. Bridgerton’ is featured in one of the new episodes. In the scene, Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan) wraps Colin Bridgerton’s (Luke Newton) hand after he accidentally cuts it.

Colin and Penelope’s friends-lovers storyline will be the lead story in season three. However, fans can look forward to plenty of surprises, as well as new characters.

The third season of Bridgerton will air in two parts with part one landing on Netflix on May 16th. Part two will air on the streaming service on June 13th.
