Twenty Years Later – The One Thing You Probably Never Noticed About Friends

At this point in time, it's safe to assume almost every man and woman in the Western World has seen every episode of iconic 90s sitcom Friends. Twice.  We'd happily count ourselves amongst that number, often passing mindless Saturdays on the couch as one episode played after another. (No judgement please). But it seems there is always something left to learn and this week you could have knocked us down with a feather when we discovered a little something about one of the very early episodes. In The One With The Evil Orthodontist, season one episode 20, Rachel starts dating her ex-fiancé Barry again. This, even though Barry is now engaged to Rachel's old BFF Mindy. Remember it? If so, it might be because she is none other than Jennifer Grey, aka Baby Houseman herself. Grey shot to fame in 1987 after her star turn opposite Patrick Swayze in the romantic classic Dirty Dancing. Her most notable role up to that point was as Matthew Broderick's sister in John Hughes' Ferris Bueller's Day Off. In the early 90s, Jennifer opted for a series of rhinoplasty procedures, completely altering the look of her face. Years later, she spoke of how the procedure had affected her, saying: "I went in the operating room a celebrity and came out anonymous. It was like being in a witness protection program or being invisible." She even admitted to considering a name change to restart her career, but ultimately decided against it. In 1994, she landed the guest spot in Friends... looking very different from her Dirty Dancing days. We can't be the only ones who never spotted this, surely?!
