The former RTÉ presenter has launched a new bookish project.
As speculation continues as to what is next for Ryan Tubridy after parting ways with RTÉ, the former Radio 1 host has launched a new ‘series’ on Instagram.
Posting on the social media platform on Monday, the presenter announced that he will be releasing a “series of book recommendations” via video clips.
The first of these videos was focused on crime novels and saw Tubridy praise the following books:
- Strange Sally Diamond by Liz Nugent
- The Lock-Up by John Banville
- Don’t Look Back by Jo Spain
- The Convictions of John Dillahunt by Andrew Hughes
- Trust by Hernan Diaz
- Age of Vice by Deepti Kapoor
- Reykjavík by Ragnar Jónasson and Katrín Jakobsdottír
In a caption accompanying the video, Tubridy wrote: “First in a series of book recommendations…Starting with some cracking crime novels.

“Lots more to come but try and support your local independent bookshop and never forget that library up the road! Enjoy.”
Having recommended her 2023 novel, Nugent commented on Tubridy’s clip, stating: “Thanks a million! And I heartily agree with your other recommendations too.
“Really missing you from the airwaves and judging by the vast majority of these comments, I’m not alone! A friend commented recently that her father died around the time you went off the air and she’s not sure who her mother misses most.”
Last month, the Director-General of RTÉ Kevin Bakhurst confirmed that Tubridy would not be coming back to his RTÉ Radio 1 show after the latter became embroiled in the broadcaster’s secret payments scandal.
While there had been discussions between Bakhurst and Tubridy about a potential return to the airwaves for the host, the Director-General said that talks between the two broke down.
Since then, many have wondered what will be next for the presenter, with reports suggesting that he could take up a role at Irish station Classic Hits Radio or UK channel GB News.
