Prince Harry says he’s ‘grateful’ he got to visit his father

Prince Harry has spoken out about his father’s devastating cancer diagnosis for the first time.

The prince flew to England after news of King Charles’s diagnosis broke at the beginning of the month.

A cancer diagnosis can completely break a family’s heart, but Prince Harry believes it will bring his family together.

Speaking to ABC’s Good Morning America, the dad-of-two admitted he still loves his family despite what has happened between them in the past.

Harry’s famous (and public) fallout with the royals may be behind him as they focus on the king’s recovery.

He said: “I love my family. The fact that I was able to get on a plane and go and see him and spend any time with him, I’m grateful for that.”

He responded to a question about the diagnosis having a ‘reunifying effect’ on his family by saying he hopes it will bring them together.

“Yeah, I’m sure. Throughout all these families I see it on a day-to-day basis the strength of the family unit coming together.

“I think any illness, any sickness brings families together,” Prince Harry added.

Buckingham Palace confirmed the king’s diagnosis at the start of February but has not confirmed what type of cancer he has.

A statement from palace officials read: “During The King’s recent hospital procedure for benign prostate enlargement, a separate issue of concern was noted. Subsequent diagnostic tests have identified a form of cancer.

The King’s medical team have advised him to step back from public-facing duties for the time being.

“Throughout this period, His Majesty will continue to undertake State business and official paperwork as usual,” officials added.

Prince Harry flew to England for a last-minute trip after his father found out about his cancer.

The royals may have had trouble in the past, but many believe this heartbreaking time will bring them closer together.
