Lauren Conrad may be known for her style, entrepreneurship, or as one of our TV favourites from The Hills, but now the 29-year old can add promoting positive mental health to her CV.
The 29-year old has taken a stand against body shaming and the media’s fascination with being ‘skinny’. Instead the star aims to promote a positive body image and fitness on her website, LaurenConrad.com.
In an open letter published on her website, Lauren wrote:
“When we’ve talked about getting in shape in the past, words like “skinny,” “slim,” and “thin” have often come up. Starting this month, we’ll be banning any body shaming terms from the site, and replacing them with words like “fit” “toned,” and “healthy.” We try do to this for the most part anyway, but now we’re making it official! The word skinny will now be reserved for skinny jeans. My editorial team and I had a long talk about it, and we want to make sure that the focus is on being fit as opposed to a number on the scale. Every body is created differently—and healthy bodies come in all shapes and sizes.”
The move comes in response to an increase eating disorders internationally, with Lauren promising to focus her health and fitness features around being healthy, and feeling your best.
The move has been well received with fans, who have praised the reality star for her decision to change her site’s conversation around weight and health.
