Singer Lily Allen has spoken out about her 2011 miscarriage, revealing that she almost died after contracting septicaemia.
The Air Balloon singer lost her first baby with husband Sam Cooper and described the ordeal to The Sun on Sunday as “really horrific and painful”.
“It was horrendous and something I would not wish on my worst enemy. It’s something that I still haven’t dealt with, I never will get over it,” she said.
“…I held my child and it was really horrific and painful — one of the hardest things that can happen to a person. I was overwhelmed by what an incredibly unlucky thing it was to happen. But I had this man standing by my side, who I knew was going to be with me for the rest of my life.”
Allen, who has since had two-year-old Ethel and 15-month-old Marnie, was rushed to hospital following the miscarriage where she was treated for blood poisoning and “nearly died”. However, she says she was “numb and didn’t care” at the time as she was grieving for her lost child, adding that she has special ways to remember her son.
“I just think that he’s a part of my eldest, really. If he hadn’t died, it wouldn’t have physically been possible for our eldest to be alive because I got pregnant with her so quickly. We’ve got a little stone in our garden with his name on it. And lots of different thing I do, rituals, I have him in my mind.”
