Ariana Grande turned down this offer from Queen Elizabeth because she’s ‘still grieving’

Ariana Grande has reportedly turned down an offer of Damehood from Queen Elizabeth as she fears it might be insensitive.

The 25-year-old singer was offered the honour by the royal family after she flew back to the UK to visit and raise funds for bereaved families after the Manchester Arena terror attack on May 22, 2017, which took 23, including that of the suicide bombers. According to The Sun, the One Last Time singer was seriously "flattered" by the honour, however “she feared some affected might see it as insensitive. The committee wrote to her but she politely said no,” a source told the publication. Continuing, they said:

“She was deeply moved and honoured. She didn’t decline it as such but explained it was not the right time to accept.”

One mother who lost her 15-year-old daughter, Olivia Campbell-Hardy, during the concert bombing praised the star's decision to refuse the gong saying it's all a little too soon.

She’s right — maybe it is a bit too soon. She’s lovely and would never do anything to hurt any of us.”

Ariana has admitted to receiving treatment for PTSD following the attack and was made an honourary citizen of Manchester after the horrific tragedy as a mark of respect for the love and fundraising she gave for both the victims and families of the deceased in the following months.
