It's really very simple.

It’s really very simple.

Bad breath is something that no one wants and talking to someone with it can be a bit of a nightmare.

While mouthwash or chewing gum is the obvious short-term quick fix there are simple things you can do to get rid of bad breath more effectively.

Dentist Ada Cooper spoke to Business Insider about the steps you can take to ensure your breath is fresh and healthy.

Brush your teeth: While this is an obvious one, Dr. Cooper said that brushing at night specifically, helps to alleviate the problem, as it gets rid of all the food of the day.

Brush your tongue: This is something that a lot of people probably don’t do. Dr. Cooper said that bacteria accumulates on the back on your tongue which causes strong odour, so scrubbing it while you brush your teeth can help.

Drink a lot of water: When your mouth becomes dry food and bacteria sits in your mouth a lot longer, the dentist says. Dry mouth can be caused by cigarettes, alcohol and coffee so cutting down on these things could make a difference.

So keeping your breath fresh is really not that hard, just give your tongue a good scrub when you’re brushing your teeth at night, and drink loads of water.

If you’re breath is still bad after all this, Dr. Cooper says this may be a sign of something more serious, in which case you should see your dentist.
