She accidentally left the tampon in and had no idea

A woman has opened up about how she left her tampon in for two years without realising.

The woman opened up about the ordeal on TikTok but stressed that she didn’t mean to because she was so young.

She told her followers: “When I accidentally left a tampon in for two years, but I was literally just a teenage girl.”

Melanie Galeaz explained that she was suffering from unusual symptoms but she had been diagnosed with Lyme Disease as a child.

She thought her symptoms were related to that, but they resurfaced a few months later.

She was too embarrassed but eventually visited her gynecologist.

During the examination, Melanie said the doctor gasped when she found the tampon.

She told her: “You have a tampon stuck horizontally under your cervix.”

The doctor was in disbelief about how the tampon was stuck for two years but believed it caused multiple infections.

Doctors have urged women to be cautious and to only leave tampons in for four to eight hours maximum.

Toxic shock syndrome is rare but being aware of the symptoms is key in avoiding the condition.

Medical professionals stressed that anyone with toxic shock syndrome should always seek medical attention urgently.

The key symptoms are:

  • a high temperature
  • muscle aches
  • a raised skin rash that feels like sandpaper
  • flu-like symptoms
