Against Spain they had taken the lead 1-0 but their opponents equalised meaning it came down to penalties.

They had earlier this week beaten India in the quarter-finals also in a thrilling penalty shootout.

Ireland were ranked just 16th in world prior to the tournament but will take their place in the final two in what is a magnificent achievement for this team.
